Biographical Information:
Betty Salsburg Klapper, 97, of Clearwater, passed away peacefully on June 3.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Betty was a sergeant in the Woman's Army Corps in World War II.
Following the war Betty became executive secretary of Temple B'nai Brith, a member of its executive committee and board of trustees, and was on the executive committee of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the
National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods.
Betty was administrator of the Summit Nursing Home in Wilkes-Barre for 30 years, and a fellow of the American College of Health Care Administrators.
She was president of the Pennsylvania Chapter of that organization and a member of the Executive Committees of the following organizations: American Health Care Association, National Conference on Intermediate Care,
National Conference on Adult Day Care Centers. National Conference on Consultation Services, the Pennsylvania Health Care Association and Family Service Association of Wilkes-Barre.
Betty was appointed by the governor
of Pennsylvania to be a delegate to the 1981 White House Conference on Aging. She was chairperson of the Luzerne/Wyoming Counties Area Agency on the Aging Advisory Council,
and chairman of the Help Line twenty-four hour information and referral service. She was a faculty member at Kings College in Wilkes-Barre teaching long term health care service and administration.
After retiring to Florida Betty became president of Temple Avahat Shalom and served on its Board of Trustees of and other temple committees . Up until her death she stayed active in her community.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Lee Klapper, and brother Samuel. She is survived by sons James(Vicki) and Jonathon (Virginia), grandchildren Tiffany (Michael) and Ryan (Renee),
her beloved granddaughter Cassidy, and her sister Evelyn.
Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Thursday June 6th at Bay Pines National Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow
the service from 1:30-2:30 pm at Regency Oaks' Town Hall at 2701 Regency Oaks Blvd, Clearwater.
